Cheap, decent quality, and a variety of flavours; all at a central location! I recommend the New York cheesecake or the mint chocolate chip. Waffle cones are only $0.65 extra! Note that they only allow you to sample three flavours.

John's Ice Cream a old-school no frills shop with walk in and take-out service. Two freezer one side traditional and other exotic. Service is never a problem and you do feel like a bargain at USD $1.75- choice of cone included. It's still a good choice for ice cream if you're in downtown Berkeley. Why go elsewhere to pay more for ice cream when it's under two bucks here?

John's ice cream is a staple of life in Berkeley. The price has gone up a little bit over the years since I first moved to Berkeley, but the value is still fantastic, and the ice cream is solid quality. It's unfortunate that it's not "dollar scoop" anymore, but $1.75 (as of my last visit) isn't that bad, right? Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough is probably my all time favorite selection here, but there's plenty of variety for everyone's tastes. The location is easy to get to from West Berkeley, so if you're out on the town and exploring, John's is a great spot to get some ice cream and chill.
